We kicked off by demolishing the old wood wall and excavating extra soil to lock in a stable base, hauling away material to ensure level ground and strong drainage. Next, we constructed a 2-foot-tall pressure-treated wood retaining wall, 40 feet long, with 4×4 posts every 4 feet and a 2×6 top cap, reinforced by 5 inches of drain rock in weed fabric for consistent water management.
Key features include a 300-square-foot bocce ball court framed in pressure-treated wood, set on a 3/4-inch drain rock subbase with a decomposed granite surface for reliable ball roll. We bordered it with 270 square feet of 1- to 2-inch Noya decorative rock over a 3-inch excavation and weed cloth – built to withstand traffic and elements with no ongoing work.
For the putting green, we laid down 330 square feet of premium artificial turf, shaped for true-to-life contours and speeds up to 11 on the stimpmeter. It’s edged by an 18-inch-tall stone transition wall, 12 feet long, using 12- to 24-inch field stones on a 6-inch subbase to hold firm on the slope.
The design flows with a dry riverbed: 220 square feet of 1- to 2-inch Noya rock and 100 square feet of 4- to 8-inch cobble, dug 3 inches deep with weed cloth to block weeds and direct water. A 30-foot California Gold flagstone walkway, integrated into the turf, creates a no-slip connection from the putting green to the bocce court.
We finished with 1,300 square feet of black mulch for ground cover around plants and edges, along with 47 one-gallon plants connected to drip irrigation for water-efficient growth under your control. Added 60 linear feet of 3-inch drain lines to route water and prevent buildup.
